I replaced the light bulb, but there was still no light.
Leaning towards the back of the couch, I found the problem. It was not plugged in.
After connecting the plug to the outlet, I once again turned on the lamp and was rewarded with a soft light that flooded the room. I no longer had to stumble through the dark, stepping on cat toys or tripping over furniture.
Sometimes it feels like we are stumbling through the dark and God is nowhere to be found. In truth, God is always with us.
Here are three ways to stay connected to God:
Praying is a conversation with God. We can freely go to him with our requests. Open your heart to God. Tell him your thoughts, concerns and problems. Philippians 4:7 (NLT) promises that if you do:
Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Jesus Christ.
Read His Word
Immerse yourself in God’s word. It is his way of communicating with us. Hebrews 4:12 (NLT) says:
For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
Fall to your knees, raise your arms up high and praise our Almighty Father. Psalm 150:1 (NLT) says:
Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heaven!
Nothing had changed after I turned on my lamp. Dust was still collecting on the hardwood floor. Two blankets lay uneven on the couch with pillows thrown on top. A forgotten plate with crumbs and an empty glass sat on the end table.
The untidy room was exactly as I had left it. But I was changed. I had plugged back into to the Holy Spirit and was filled with peace.
You may be in the midst of struggles, but when you plug into God and his Word, you will receive peace and enough light to see you to the end.
Go ahead plug in. I dare you.
