God blesses us every day

God's blessings

The temperature was below zero as I drove to work. A snow storm had just left six inches of fresh snow on the ground burying everything underneath including my car.

It’s been a cold and snowy winter but spring is just a few weeks away. I could almost touch it. But then a storm slaps my hand back and punishes me with more snow and cold air.

“When will this end?” I ask out loud to no one in my empty car.

I look around me and all I see is a blanket of white. There is no green grass on this day. It is fast asleep beneath the snow. Trees are burdened by extra weight that threatens to break their branches.

As I turned a corner, my eyes fell upon the sun slowly rising above the trees. The sky was bright with radiant colors that gently pushed the darkness away. In a few minutes, the Sun would fully appear bringing with it the light of day.

A few minutes later, I made another turn and saw a full moon in the opposite direction. The moon was slowly bowing out to make room for the warm rays of the sun. Isn’t God amazing? In the midst of my winter slumber, He handed me two blessings to show his love for me. Ecclesiastes 3:13 says

That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God.

God’s love for us is so great that he wants to bless us in the middle of our stress by showering us with blessings.

These blessings do not always come in big packages – in fact, most of the time they don’t. Yes, he does heal the sick and mend relationships, but God also blesses us in small ways by providing us with rainbows in the sky, the smile on a child’s face or flowers in your backyard.

It occurred to me that the sun and moon raise and set each and every single day. Why have I never truly enjoyed them? Maybe I am too focused on the rush of everyday life that I miss these gifts he wants to bestow upon me.

In order to truly enjoy these gifts, we need to slow down. We need to take the time to see and enjoy them. These blessings will not change our situations, but they will fill you with joy and enough grace to make it through the day.

My friend, look for your gifts today no matter how small. Accept them and thank God for his glorious love for you.

  1. Beautiful word. I, too, am tired of winter and ready for spring. Yesterday was gorgeous and made me even more hungry for spring. But I do agree that we need to slow down and see God’s blessings around us every day, even in winter. Even buried in snow. 🙂

Thank you for linking up with Woman to Woman’s Word Filled Wednesday. It’s a blessing to have you join the community. God bless.

  2. What a beautiful post. So beautifully written and with such a powerful message. Loved it. Thank you. [And your line, “God’s love for us is so great that he wants to bless us in the middle of our stress by showering us with blessings” arrived for me as such a serendipitous time! Thank you!]…..{I popped over from Karen Beth’s}

  3. This is a beautiful reminder that God’s greatest blessings are not in the thunderous experiences of life, but in the many daily beautiful moments that we often take for granted, but deserve the greatest thanks. Thanks for linking at Motivate and Rejuvenate Mondays! God bless,

  4. Being intentional about thanking God for the everyday blessings — I needed this reminder. Great to run into you at Beloved Brews. (I still remember your Ma’am post from last week!)

  5. It is so true. It is all a matter of what we will choose to focus on. May He give us eyes to see those things He blesses us with every day for they are right there in front of us. So glad to have stopped here from Thought Provoking Thurs. as I do think this is my 1st time here. So very nice to “meet” you 🙂

  6. Thank you, Jenny, for the reminder that God’s blessings shower down on us all the time! The small ones are just as important as the large ones. Just yesterday I saw a friend I hadn’t seen in awhile, and she almost knocked me down with her great big hug of welcome. 🙂 A small blessing, but a big one too.

  7. Jenny, I love when the Lord surprises me with a little blessing on my drive to work! The other day I say a woodpecker! Beautiful! Thank you for making me more aware of His blessings each day!

  8. Awesome words today, Jenny! It’s so true that we need to recognize those things in our lives that fill us with joy- the little things that sometimes go unnoticed.

  9. We have moved this last year into a home where the sunrise and sunset are visible from the kitchen table everyday. It’s amazing to be constantly reminded of the beauty and grace of God.

  10. He is truly amazing and works in crazy ways! Everyday I set the gorgeous sunrise from my kitchen window. That is a beautiful reminder of His greatness, and a great way to start the day.

  11. This is great, Jenny! Ever since I read Ann Voskamp’s book 1000 Gifts in Nov of 2011, I have been on this question to thank God for the little (and big stuff) on a more regular basis. I am over 5000 now and continue to keep my eyes peeled– even when the world seems to be filled with winter. Thanks, girl.

  12. Very beautiful! And such a great reminder to pay attention to the little things, and to be grateful.
It has been a long time since I have watched a sunrise…I think I am going to make it a point to this week!

  13. Jenny this is a beautiful post, I am glad that God blessed you that day with the view of the sun rising and the moon setting. Sometimes the small miracles are missed but you are right that we need to slow down and make sure that we are aware of them and that they will give us hope and help us feel Gods love. Thank you for sharing at Good Morning Mondays. Blessings.

  14. “These blessings will not change our situations, but they will fill you with joy and enough grace to make it through the day.” Beautiful words, Jenny, that remind me to pause long enough to see the blessings of God all around me and then thank Him, who is the Giver of all good things.

Than your for reminding me to notice my blessings, my friend, and sharing your words at #IntentionalTuesday

  15. Thank you for this good and timely reminder!
My husband and I call these “God stickers”. When we see something really special as you’ve described or get something special we weren’t expecting, we tell each other, “Oh look, you got a God sticker!”

Blessings of GREAT JOY on your amazing adventure journey with Jesus!
